Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes urges to lay down egos and avoid protagonism

The Archbishop of Managua, Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes Solórzano, presided this Sunday, August 28, at the Eucharist from the cathedral. Through the liturgy of this day, the prelate drew attention to the desire for protagonism that prevails in some citizens, which leads to direct efforts “in seeking the first places”, actions that the disciples did not escape either, he indicated. the hierarch

The maximum leader of the Nicaraguan Catholic Church recognized that “today we all have that great temptation (protagonism), in which we must not fall. Look for the first places, look for the first applause. Some even raise their voices seeking, motivating applause. There is an ego.”

Brenes, from the pulpit of the cathedral, asked for prayers for the members of the Church so that they remain humble. In the prayers, in addition, he included the rulers so that they guarantee “a full and happy life for their citizens.” Also, he prayed for the migrants and the imprisoned.

In Nicaragua, there are currently 10 imprisoned priests, deacons, and seminarians, and the most relevant case is the house arrest imposed without justification against Bishop Rolando Álvarez, an act that has also affected the religious’s family in Managua.

«The great temptation of the world is applause. The great temptation of today’s world is how many follow me on (social) networks, how many applaud me, how many take me out on the front pages », he continued.

The prelate did not refer to the persecution against the Church, nor to the arrest of some leaders, although he did insist on prayers for the clergy. The last thing that was known is that more than a week ago the cardinal met with Monsignor Álvarez. He acknowledged that the bishop’s health has been “deteriorated” by forced confinement.

Murillo’s attacks on the Church

In their constant attacks on the Church, Rosario Murillo has accused them of promoting a protagonist desire, this with the aim of minimizing the accusations of priests drifting authoritarian from the Nicaraguan regime, to whom they attribute the wave of migration that the country faces, that has forced more than 150,000 Nicaraguans to leave their land from 2018 to date.

Murillo has attacked the leaders with derogatory epithets such as “perverse, angry, bitter and non-Christian.” Likewise, he has accused them of harboring “perverse, selfish, self-centered mentalities that do not understand the Christian message, nor do they practice it of course.”

For her part, Murillo, her detractors, accuse her of being a “false Christian,” since while professing her love for God, she orders new attacks against Nicaraguans, including even the priests themselves.
