San Juan de la Maguana.- The Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD)explained the steps that the Government plans to follow for the implementation of the Plan for the Economic Development of the Province of San Juan (Plan San Juan), whose objective is to transform the productive matrix of the province towards a more diversified and higher yielding.
Minister Pavel Isa Contreras He indicated that in order to diversify the productive apparatus of San Juan, it is necessary to promote sectors other than agriculture and new agro-industrial sectors, while promoting more profitable agricultural items.
In a meeting led by President Luis Abinader with 400 agricultural producerswhich took place on the campus of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Isa Contreras pointed out that the little productive diversification of this province is reflected in the fact that 35% of the active population works in agriculture, compared to 7% dedicated to this activity at the national level.

He stated that one should bet on more agricultural items and crops with higher added value and profitabilitysince, as he explained, there is currently a very high level of specialization in low-value and uncompetitive crops.
He added that increasing agricultural productivity in this province is also one of the priorities of the San Juan Plan, established in February this year by the decree 64-22.
Isa Contreras explained that the execution of this development instrument includes promoting a greater and better infrastructure of irrigationnew agricultural items, the production chain and processing activities, as well as the associativity to enable productive activities.
