On behalf of the Mexican government, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard will attend Cape Canaveral, Florida, tomorrow for the launch of the Artemis I unmanned mission, in which Mexico participates along with 19 other countries, and which is part of a project to bring human beings to the Moon and finally to Mars.
Our country collaborates in the mission led by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at the invitation of the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, Ebrard said yesterday in a video broadcast on social networks.
Mexico is preparing several possible experiments to contribute to this. The National Autonomous University of Mexico is leading the way with the hive robot project, a small robot that could eventually be included in this mission by 2024.
He added that the launch is important for Mexico because we are the 14th country in aerospace production and we are on our way to being number 12
.
He added that it is expected that in the next decade the Mexican aeronautical industry will follow the path of the national automaker, which is the sixth in the world.
The uncrewed Artemis I mission, which includes the Space Launch System Rocket and the Orion spacecraft, is scheduled to lift off tomorrow between 9:33 and 10:33 Central Mexico Time from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. in Florida.
The spacecraft will thus make the first in a series of flights with which the United States intends to return to the Moon with a human crew, establish a sustained presence there and use the experiences gained to plan a trip to Mars sometime in the 2030s.
