Part of the psychological torture used by the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo consists of seeking family separation. The political prisoner has not been allowed a photo, a drawing, a letter, or a call, much less a visit from her five-year-old son.

More than 14 months have passed since her arbitrary imprisonment and the relatives of the president of the Unión Democrática Renovadora (Unamos) have not given up. Given the recent visit to the Judicial Assistance Directorate of the daughter of Tamara Dávila and Miguelito, son of Miguel Mora; Barahona’s relatives started a campaign called “A video call for Suyen.” With the initiative they intend to influence the Nicaraguan administration so that it at least authorizes the right of continuous communication between mother and child, since the minor is outside the country.
César Dubois, Barahona’s husband, told Article 66 that as a family they have filed several legal petitions and on social networks demanding that “her right (of the opponent) to see our son be respected and that a letter, a drawing, a call, a video call be allowed. Let there be communication because that is the right of our son and also that of Suyen ».

It is the right of every child to hear that his mother loves him, “said the 45-year-old prisoner of conscience and one of the most recognized faces of the Nicaraguan opposition.

Barahona showed her joy at the visit that Tamara Dávila and Miguel Mora received from their children. The two opponents went on hunger strikes inside “El Nuevo Chipote” to put pressure on the regime. The first spent five days under this regimen and the second spent more than 40 days without eating solid food. With this, Suyen’s expectation is that political prisoners have the opportunity to see and hug their sons and daughters.
The Barahona family knows the behavior of the Ortega-Murillos and for this reason, Dubois maintains that if the request continues to be denied, they will not give up and will continue to demand that meeting “until hearts soften.”

Suyen Barahona is one of the most visible faces of the opposition. Since before 2018, he had been denouncing state-directed human rights violations.
