The regime’s systematic refusal to authorize visits by minors was precisely what motivated political prisoners Miguel Mora and Tamara Dávila to go on a hunger strike in El Chipote, demanding that they be allowed to see their children.

Miguel Mora managed to meet his son Miguelito Mora Chávez, 21, who uses a wheelchair and has a motor disability.
Verónica Chávez, Mora’s wife, confirmed the meeting to 100% Noticias, assuring that it was the “best” birthday present.
“When we walked through the door, Miguel greeted Miguelito with a big shout, Glory to God! Miguelito we made it, Glory be to God and Miguelito said ‘daddy!’ and they hugged each other, sang and prayed,” Chávez told 100% Noticias.
He added that Miguelito asked his father “what are you doing?” and the political prisoner replied “I am here building a great house with firm and solid stones. I am working Miguelito for Nicaragua.”
Tamara Dávila’s relatives also reported her meeting with her six-year-old daughter, whom she had not seen since June 12, 2021, when the Ortega-Murillo regime ordered her arrested at her home.
Dávila expressed to her relatives how happy it made her to see her daughter, emphasizing that the meeting should have taken place from the first moment, because it is her right.
“I am happy to finally see my daughter, this should have happened from day one as it is our right. A single visit is not enough. I demand that regular visits and calls be immediately allowed from all minor and disabled sons and daughters to their mothers and fathers who are political prisoners, including those outside the country,” Dávila’s family shared.
Daniel Ortega’s regime keeps more than 190 people imprisoned for political reasons in Nicaragua. Among them are political and civic leaders, human rights defenders, activists, journalists, peasants, students, businessmen, and now also priests and seminarians, for whom their immediate freedom is demanded.
