MIAMI, United States. — The National Center for Seismological Research of Cuba (CENAIS) recorded an earthquake of magnitude 3.4 on the Richter scale that was perceptible in the cities of Santiago and Guantánamo.

The data collected by CENAIS indicate that the epicenter of the tremor was located 40 kilometers southwest of the municipality of Caimanera, at a depth of 21 kilometers.
Enrique Diego Arango Arias, CENAIS specialist, indicated in social networks that reports of perceptibility were received in several locations in the provinces of Guantánamo and Santiago de Cuba, although without material or human damage.
The expert added that the network of seismological stations of the national service in real time maintain a strict and permanent surveillance over the southeastern region of the country.
The earthquake registered in the early hours of today was the fifth perceptible of the current year. The previous one, of magnitude 4.0 on the Richter scale, occurred on June 28 and had its epicenter in the same area of the Oriente fault.
At the beginning of July, Dr. Enrique Diego Arango Arias himself warned about the possibility of a strong earthquake on the Island.
