The mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, decreed this Saturday three days of municipal mourning for the death of the writer and historian, Mario Sanoja.
Through his account on the social network Twitter, Meléndez explained that the flags, both national and municipal, must remain at half-staff.
«In homage to our distinguished doctor Mario Sanoja Obediente, Chronicler of Caracas, I have decreed three days of Municipal Duel starting this Saturday #27Aug. The national and municipal flags will remain at half-staff, in honor of this man who loved the capital city so much,” he wrote in his account on the social network.
This Saturday The Venezuelan chronicler, writer and anthropologist passed away Mario Sanoja, at the age of 88 years.
Sanoja was born in the city of Caracas in 1934.
According to the website of MinCulture, Sanoja received a doctorate in Anthropology from the Central University of Venezuela in 1966.
He was a scientific collaborator of the Smithsonian Institution (1967) and gave postgraduate classes at various universities in Venezuela.
In 2004 he received the National Prize for Culture, Humanities mention, by the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture (2004).
