Optimism of the USA in the face of the lower rate of contagion of monkeypox

The US health authorities are “cautiously optimistic” in the face of the lower rate of infections by monkeypox in the country, which registers the highest number of cases in the world to date.

The director of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Rochelle Walensky, indicated that a “declining” trend in the number of new daily cases is already being seen, especially in the most affected districts, such as New York, Chicago or San Francisco.

“I want to be cautiously optimistic,” said Walensky, who valued this trend as well as the fact that vaccines are reaching areas where there is a higher population at risk.

Therefore, although the figures continue to rise, the rate of increase is lower.

GLOBAL LEVEL

In any case, the United States accumulates the highest number of registered cases of monkeypox, 17,000 of the 46,700 globally, according to data provided by the director of the CDC.

The coordinator of the White House response team, Bob Fenton, explained that the authorities are concentrating on getting the vaccines to the areas and individuals at greatest risk, especially the LGTBIQ + community.

Specifically, he pointed out that these days they are working with cities like Atlanta, which celebrates Black Pride (Black Pride) this weekend, and New Orleans, which plans to celebrate what is known as “Southern Decadence” in early September. EFE
