The head of the Buenos Aires Government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, asked Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner to “assume responsibility” so that the protesters “retreat peacefully to their homes tonight,” after the repression exercised by the City Police against Kirchner supporters who expressed their support for the former president in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Recoleta.
“The Vice President seeks that the solution of her problems with the Argentine justice be settled in the streets, pitting some Argentines against others. We will not allow it,” Rodríguez Larreta said at a press conference offered tonight from the Government headquarters. in the neighborhood of Parque Parque Patricios.
Along these lines, he remarked: “That is why I ask you, Madam Vice President, to assume responsibility for the peaceful withdrawal of the protesters to their homes.”
“And as we have always done, we are available so that from now on we find solutions so that the demonstrations in the vicinity of your home do not hold people hostage”he held at the conference in which he was accompanied by the Minister of Government, Jorge Macri, and the national deputies, María Eugenia Vidal, Diego Santilli and Cristian Ritondo.
Likewise, he highlighted the actions of the City Police and expressed that “on Tuesday night, while the demonstration was peaceful, all those who went to give their support were able to do so”, but “now, when there was a risk of violence, we intervened with a great action by the City Police that prevented opposing groups from clashing”.
“After that, and throughout the days, the situation worsened,” he said, noting that “what was an expression of support became a permanent camp with groups that took turns occupying the public space with threats against neighbors, noise until dawn, people climbing on light poles, grills in the street, fireworks and an absolute alteration of life in the entire area.
Along these lines, he affirmed that “a demonstration is one thing and an organized plan to occupy public space is another very different thing” and maintained that “we have twelve police officers who were injured.”
“The Police acted firmly, with determination and with professionalism. Violence is the limit. We will not allow it. Whenever there are situations of violence, the City Police will act,” he assured.
