Traffic accident leaves at least 60 injured in Santiago de Cuba

A massive car accident occurred this Friday morning in an area near Melgarejo, on the Cobre highway (Santiago de Cuba). At the moment, and according to reports on social networks, there were 62 injured with no fatalities reported.

The journalist Dayron Chang Arranz detailed from Facebook that the accident was caused by the impact between a bus that was transporting the health personnel of the Ambrosio Grillo Hospital and a van with passengers.

Another report by the journalist Ada Mirtha Carmenaty, in CMKC, counted 62 injured, including three children under one, three and 10 years old. They were being treated at South Children’s Hospital.

Among the injured, according to Chang’s report, there were 49 workers, 14 doctors, 19 technologists, 10 nurses and 6 between auxiliaries, stretcher bearers and secretaries.

The CMKX radio station, from Granma, had pointed out shortly before that the injured were being treated at the Ambrosio Grillo hospital and at the Saturnino Lora Provincial Hospital.

At the time of writing this note (12:00 p.m.) no deaths were reported.
