A parade of drums and sikuris inaugurated this Saturday the celebrations of the 210th anniversary of the Jujeño Exodus, held in Tecnópolis to commemorate the epic mobilization of the inhabitants of northern Argentina, who, led by General Manuel Belgrano, abandoned everything to defend independence and freedom.

With Whipala and Argentine flags, women dressed in coya clothing and musicians with striped ponchos advanced dancing and singing to the Federal Patio of Tecnópolis, where they were received with applause by visitors to the Villa Martelli estate, who, encouraged by the parade, joined the rounds and dances.

While the rhythm of carnivalthat the bands played on stage, it was heard in the park, dancers from different groups blew their whistles to invite the curious who came to join the celebration, building increasingly larger rounds.

Diego, a metallurgical worker from Quilmes who was catching his breath after joining the dances, told Télam: “My wife and I had been promising the boys that we were going to bring them since the winter holidays, we were leaving the shed with the bugs when we saw that they were coming with the sikuris and we followed them here.”

“The boys had seen the Jujeño Exodus at school and the youngest had danced the carnival on the spot and was ‘remanija’ from Belgrano, that’s why when they passed we wanted to see where they were going and they ended up hooking me to dance,” he added between laughs.

Diana, a teacher from Parque Chacabuco, told Télam: “with my friends we usually come to tecnópolis to drink mate and enjoy the free recitals on weekends, we didn’t know this was there but as soon as we heard the music we got closer and the truth which is very nice.”

“It is very valuable that festivals like this one are generated that open opportunities to enjoy our cultures and learn more about our history, I think that today we are going to stay in this part of the park”he added.

Nino Chiliguay, radio host from Jujuy and host of the festival, told Télam “for those of us who are so far from our native province, having the possibility of meeting is always a party, and even more so when we can do it to remember that patriotic deed that was the Exodus. Jujeño led by General (Manuel) Belgrano and that those of us from the north always claim with great intensity”.

“It is very important that our culture be spread and that spaces as important as Tecnópolis give it a place like that where many people can get a little closer and enjoy it,” he said.

Throughout the afternoon, the singer Emiliano Esparaza, Dj Herrero and the Federal Dance Group, among other artists and shows, were also present on the stage of the Federal Patio of Tecnópolis.

The “Northern Encounter”, which is part of the organization of the festival, highlighted in a statement that the celebration is “in homage to that people who accompanied him in the exodus of August 23, 1812, and who made possible the triumphs of Las Piedras , Tucuman and Salta”.
