More than 14,000 schoolchildren in 12 regions learned how to use sanitation services well

More than 14,000 schoolchildren from 12 regions of the country learned good practices in the use of sanitation services during the national Water Classes initiative for sanitation education, promoted by the Technical Agency of the Sanitation Services Administration (Otass) and the Sanitation Service Provider Companies (EPS).

A new official launch of this initiative was carried out at the IEP Marcelino Champagnat, in which hundreds of children, adolescents and young people will learn to value sanitation services, through the EPS Tacna, the second municipal shareholding company to join to the implementation of this novel educational proposal.

“With Agua Clases, schoolchildren will become responsible citizens and true agents of change, who will spread among their family and friends, and in their communities, the importance of care, responsible use and appreciation of drinking water and sewage.”, said the executive director of Otass, Héctor Barreda Domínguez, who participated in the launch ceremony in Tacna.

Currently, in schools in 12 regions of the country, Water Classes are taught, an initiative promoted by Otass, through the Office of Social Management and Communications and the specialists and communicators of 19 EPS under the administration of the agency.

We are forming new generations that practice environmental culture and in the future have the necessary resources to live, since the care of the planet’s resources depends on usBarreda stressed.

Educational videos with playful characters

In the sessions of Agua Clases, the students watch 9 videos, in which playful characters, including Gotón, explain how water is made drinkable, the proper use of sanitation services and the wastewater route, among other topics.

Within the framework of the execution of this initiative, communicators and specialists in health education from Emapa Cañete, Emapa Huaral and EPS Barranca, Emapab and EPSSMU (Amazonas); EPS Marañón (Cajamarca), Emapacop (Ucayali), Emapica, Emapisco and Semapach (Ica); EPS Ilo, EPS Moquegua, Sedaloreto, Seda Huánuco, EPS Moyobamba, Epsel (Lambayeque) and the Agua Tumbes Executing Unit carry out periodic visits to educational institutions.

The provincial mayor, Julio Medina, attended the launch ceremony of the initiative in Tacna; the manager of the sanitation company, Juan Seminario; the president of the Otass Board of Directors, Jorge Manrique; and the representative of the MVCS César Méndez. Also the director of Evaluation and Monitoring, Ana Vergara; the general manager Elizabeth Ramos and the head of the Social Management and Communications Office, Carmen Acosta.

It should be noted that the EPS Tacna is the second municipal shareholding company that implements Agua Clases. The first was EPS Grau, from Piura, which currently has 1,138 sensitized schoolchildren.
