A car accident occurred this Friday night on a highway in the western province of Pinar del Río caused the overturning of a tanker loaded with fuel, without fatalities.
According to an informative note published by the Provincial Government of Pinewood of the river on his Facebook profile, the event occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. at Km 9 of the highway to San Juan y Martínez, when a private car of the Hyundai brand hit a tanker truck that was transporting approximately 22,000 liters of gasoline to the municipality of Sandino.
According to the source, the accident left a balance of 5 people injured, including a woman. All were treated at the Abel Santamaría Cuadrado Provincial Hospital with minor injuries that were not life-threatening.
All the wounded underwent complementary analysis, plates, as well as sutures in wounds of at least three points, and were admitted for observation. After the first six hours of the accident, the tests were repeated, and due to their results they were discharged, the information adds.
The report refers that with the use of specialized means of the Corps of Firemen and the Cubapetróleos Company (Cupet) managed to evacuate all the fuel from the tanker car that ended up dumped on the highway, which was reassigned for distribution in the service centers of the provincial capital.
The fuel loading vehicle was removed from the scene by a crane, as it suffered considerable damage to its cabin, according to the assessments made by the competent authorities.
The investigation carried out by experts from the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) pointed out as responsible for the accident the driver of the Hyundai car, who got in the way occupied by the tanker car when he tried to pass an animal-drawn transport, the note specifies, which does not provide details about the situation of the third vehicle involved in the incident.
Cuba reports more traffic accidents in the first half of the year
Violations of traffic laws are among the main causes of accidents in Cuba, which increased in the first half of this year throughout the country.
