MIAMI, United States. — The South African American businessman Elon Musk assured that next year it will be possible to massify the Internet service via satellite through the new version of the Starlink project.

Last Thursday, Musk assured on social networks that with version 2.0 of Starlink (Starlink V2) users will be able to connect to the satellite network directly from their phones, a fact that would offer navigation coverage to users in those areas where the mobile phone network.

Launching next year, Starlink V2 will stream directly to mobile phones, eliminating dead zones around the world. Twitter.

Musk explained that the new satellites have large antennas “five to six meters wide to allow the new connections and that the plan is to launch the equipment using its next Starship rocket.”

The businessman made it clear that connectivity to cell phones will have a transmission speed of two to four megabytes (MB), so “it will work very well for text and calls, but not for broadband.”

Until now, the connection to the Starlink service requires a ground station that is in charge of managing the link through an antenna and a router. In that sense, Musk’s idea is that phones with 5G coverage can connect directly to the Starlink network.

To finalize his plan, the also owner of Tesla will work with the American company T-Mobile, and it is not ruled out that other providers will participate in the project in the future.

Musk’s new alternative could offer an alternative to the Cubans to overcome the censorship imposed by the regime of the Island.

With the new technology and 5G devices at hand, Cubans could connect to the Internet directly without having to depend on the Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA), a state entity controlled by the Castro dictatorship that functions as a monopoly on communications and information. .

If Musk is successful, the US government would have the tools to make the Internet easier for Cubans.

It should be remembered that it was Musk himself who sent Starlink equipment to the Ukrainians so that they could access the Internet after the start of the Russian invasion.
