According to the merchants consulted by TODAY, until yesterday sales were double those of December of last year and have the particularity that since last week they have remained high.

The stalls selling traditional products of the Christmas Eve season have been activated.

They affirmed that prices are stable, and on the other hand, consumers commented that they have increased, with the exception of the price of a pound of pork and chicken.

To take advantage of the increases in sales, many businesses work extended hours from December 22 to 24 today, so that citizens can come after the end of their working day.

Alexis Suero, owner of Pollo Alexis in the Livestock City, highlighted that sales are better this year than in 2020, and they began to activate from the beginning of the month, and even in his business at 10:30 am yesterday he no longer had chicken , because five thousand pounds were sold to him in the few hours of the morning.

Jaime Inoa, owner of Lechonera y Pollos al Carbon Jaime, located at kilometer 15 of the Duarte highway, agreed to highlight that until yesterday sales were double those of last year and said that since December 10 there is a greater upturn.

During a tour made by journalists TODAY, the pound of pork is RD $ 95 and chicken RD $ 70. And a pound of roast pork ranges between RD $ 350 and RD $ 400, likewise the whole baked chicken.

Inoa and Suero revealed that authorities from the Ministry of Agriculture inspect the distributors and pig slaughterhouses to ensure the quality of the product.

The prices of other products demanded are RD $ 27 per pound of potatoes, it is estimated that it has increased to RD $ 10 per pound; the garlic RD $ 150; the onion RD $ 35 and RD $ 40; carrot RD $ 40; the red pepper RD $ 50; cooked beet RD $ 60 and a unit of tayota RD $ 20.

In the Multicentro Churchill and Jumbo Luperón supermarkets there was a great demand for Christmas fruits, sweets and desserts, as well as canned foods, drinks and vegetables.
There is also dynamism in the sales of textiles, footwear and toys.

The executive director of the National Organization of Commercial Companies (ONEC), Jennifer Troncoso, highlighted that sales in stores have been dynamized as of December 15 and some businesses show no difference to date compared to 2020, while others have seen an increase of up to 15 percent.

He stressed that this month there have been no increases in products, except for some vegetables that tend to rise due to the high demand for the date.

He said that the most demanded edible items are chicken, pork, teleras, sweets, rice, among others.
