In the October 2 elections, about 16,000 candidates for the position of state deputy will contest the election. They are representatives of the population of the state and make up the legislative assemblies, being responsible for the elaboration and approval of laws that are related to themes pertinent to the state territory.
With a 4-year term, state deputies participate in the plenary sessions of the state parliament and in the work of the commissions. They serve voters in their region, representatives of entities, leaders from different segments and government agencies.
Each federation unit has from 24 to 94 state deputies. The number varies according to the number of voters and the representation of the state in the Chamber of Deputies.
The main function of the state deputy is to present bills, amendments to the state constitution, legislative decrees, in addition to voting on other projects submitted by other deputies and by the governor.
State parliamentarians are also responsible for the state’s accounting and financial oversight. Among the prerogatives is the possibility of taking personal steps and supervising the work of public bodies.
