The AThe Association of Journalists of La Paz chose the formula headed by Raúl Peñaranda to lead the institution for the next two years. The election held this Friday presented a single front in the contest and accumulated 94% of the votes cast.
After counting the votes, Peñaranda thanked the support received and committed to seeking the unity of the institution. The desire of the new head is aimed at strengthening the Association of Journalists of La Paz so that regain the place you had in the past. In addition, it reiterates the role that the institution plays in defending freedom of expression and of the press, as well as in the consolidation of democracy in the country.
The journalist headed the Convergence formula, made up of journalists and communicators of wide prestige. During the day, 82 members came to cast their vote in the polls and determine the new directive.
The official possession of Peñaranda will take place on September 2 on the premises of the Association.
In his professional career, his time as general editor of ANF stands out, in addition to having served as director-founder of the weekly Nueva Economía and La Época, and of the newspaper Página Siete. Today he is responsible for the Brújula Digital news site.
In a brief speech as soon as the result of the election was known, Peñaranda expressed concern about human rights violations registered in the country. He also referred to the pressure and harassment suffered by journalists and the media of communication, as in the case of the newspaper Los Tiempos.
The board of directors will be made up of Vice President Gloria Martínez, and the accompaniment of José Luis Flores, Leslie Rojas, Danna Lema, Alfonso Contreras, Pilar Hoyos, Zulema Alanes, Isabel Neyrot, Oswaldo Candia, Roger Veneros, Victoria Nava and Cecilia Ramos.
The members of the Court of Honor are: María Eugenia Verástegui, Olga Palma, Katia Rodríguez, Javier Aliaga and Thania Sandoval.
An important part of the work to be carried out by the new directive centers its efforts on add new affiliated members to the association. “We need a replacement generation, to renew the ideas of our association, to give it new impetus and new perspectives,” said Peñaranda.
