The low-cost airline Spirit Airlines will resume operations to and from Managua on November 30, 2022, confirmed the American flight company through a statement published today, August 26. Spirit Airlines joins American Airlines, which has already announced the reactivation of flights starting that same day.
The airlines that flew to Managua ceased their operations in the country as a result of the global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic that hit all countries, including Nicaragua and its neighbors in the region.

After the resumption of international flights, when the peaks of the pandemic had already subsided and the virus vaccine was applied, the Daniel Ortega regime imposed a series of requirements on travelers and crew members that prevented the normalization of air connections from most airlines flying to Nicaragua.
The Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported on June 16 that it would not be necessary to present the negative RT-PCR test certificate for COVID-19 to enter the country, and it will only be necessary to show the card that certifies the complete vaccination schedule. against SARS-CoV-2.
The Minsa detailed that people who do not comply with their complete scheme against COVID-19 must present the negative result of the test within 72 hours from taking the test until entering the country. This requirement is aimed at all persons —nationals or of other nationalities, crews and passengers—, who wish to enter through any of the borders —air, land or sea— of the territory.
Nicaragua was the only country in the region that still required a negative COVID-19 test to enter the national territory. The most recent case was the Government of Guatemala, which in March of this year eliminated this requirement. The immigration requirement was imposed by the regime in July 2020. During these two years of pandemic, the regime maintains the PCR tests centralized and these are only intended for travelers. The cost is 150 dollars.
