MIAMI United States. — The Venezuelan regime reported on the increase in Cuban tourists in that country, a type of tourism that the Chavista authorities have described as “high-end.”
Ali Padrón Paredes, minister of tourism, assured the dictator Nicolás Maduro that Cubans are traveling regularly to the island of Margarita to make purchases that range between 3,000 and 5,000 dollars.
“I wanted to give you some news, President. Thanks to the excellent commercial and all kinds of relations that we have with the Republic of Cuba, we are taking shopping tourism flights from Havana to the island of Margarita twice a week,” the official said during a transmission of the chain Venezuelan Television (VTV) from the state of Falcon.
“This is high-end tourism: the average purchase of Cuban tourism is 3,000, 4,000 and 5,000 dollars in four days,” said the Chavista minister.
Padrón Paredes also announced that flights between Havana and the city of Punto Fijo, also located in Falcón, will begin operating next week.
The official added that it is “shopping tourism that will boost the economy” of that Venezuelan state.
The Cuban agency Cubatur announced the sale since last August 10 of tourist packages to the island of Margarita. The offers include stays of three, four and up to seven nights.
the digital portal cybercuba indicated that the price of the three-night package is $775 or MLC, the four-night package is $800, and the seven-night package is $870 or MLC. The amount to be paid includes round-trip airfare, half-board accommodation, three “transfers” to malls and places of purchase, and two 23-kilo suitcases free of charge.
Cuba is going through its worst economic crisis in more than three decades, an extreme situation marked by shortages and the scarcity of supplies of basic products. Faced with this situation, the Havana regime has opted to free the entry of merchandise into the country, measures recently endorsed with the elimination of taxes on imports carried out by Cubans who travel abroad.
