MIAMI, United States. — The Cuban regime reported this Friday on talks with U.S. experts to work together on environmental sanitation and rehabilitation work in the area affected by the fire at the Supertanker Base in that province.
According to a note published by the Island’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX), last Wednesday Cuban specialists held a virtual meeting with members of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in which they addressed “the possible ways of cooperation to achieve the rehabilitation of the areas most affected” by the catastrophe.
On the Cuban side, specialists from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Institute of Hydraulic Resources intervened.
The MINREX statement indicates that the Cuban specialists explained to their US counterparts about the main tasks carried out since the extinction of the fire was decreed, the worst industrial catastrophe recorded in the history of the Caribbean country.
In that sense, the Cuban side asked the US experts for “an assessment of the actions already carried out and the possibility of accessing the most innovative techniques and procedures accumulated both by the EPA, as well as by companies linked to the oil sector and other agencies involved. in these types of accidents.
The note from the Cuban Foreign Ministry also indicates that the meeting “took place in a professional environment and fruitful exchange.”
This Friday, the Cuban ruler Miguel Diaz-Canel visited the Matanzas Supertanker Base, which lost four of its four fuel storage tanks as a result of the incident.
“We returned to the Super Tanker Base. The hustle and bustle to erase the traces of the fire is admirable. Hard work is being done, from sunrise to sunset, to recover the Industrial Zone and make it a better place.
