Members of the delegation from the Colossi of the Earth contest were received with music, cordiality and great joy, traveling to the north of the country to learn about the stories of the finalist trees, monitor their measurements, enjoy their beauty and raise awareness about the importance of its conservation.
The second expedition started this Friday is being successfully carried out in the departments of San Pedro, Concepción and Boquerón, where 7 colossi finalists will be measured. The trip brings together a delegation of more than 50 travelers, including members of the jury, national authorities, forestry and environmental engineers, and agronomists; in addition to representatives of the main media and sponsoring brands.
The first stop was in Lima, San Pedro, where the Sanabria family received the delegation with a typical country breakfast that included chipa, cocido and tortillas. To the rhythm of a Guaraní polka, Timbó’s specimen was measured, surprising everyone with its great height.
The next colossus visited was in the city of Horqueta, located on the property of the Silva family, where it was possible to contemplate the beauty and leafiness of a Timbó that represents a family symbol, where birthdays and special moments are celebrated. The last tree of the day turned out to be a Guajayvi specimen, approximately 200 years old, postulated by César Vera.
This year with the motto “Let nature surprise you”, the destinations are discovered along the routes. The message also invites us to go out and connect with nature, the forests and everything that surrounds us, to know it, value it and protect it.
With these expeditions, the next winners will be known in the different categories that are: the largest tree, the tallest, the one with the greatest circumference of the trunk, the one with the largest crown, the tree of the people, the largest in the Paraguayan Chaco and the international colossus.
