Although during this month it was possible to reduce the infestation of the Aedes mosquito at the provincial level to less than 1%, the epidemiological threat of dengue persists in Chiriquí, where 150 cases of this disease have been confirmed this year.
The regional director of Health, Gladys Novoa highlighted the need for the population to keep their properties free of potential breeding sites for the mosquito that transmits dengue and other diseases.
The official warned that for many years the population has been warned about the threat of dengue and that the only sure way to prevent this disease is to eliminate water reservoirs that serve as mosquito breeding sites.
In Ciudad Acuario de David and San Juan de San Lorenzo, one of every 10 properties inspected last week had active breeding sites for Aedes aegypty, a mosquito that transmits Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika and yellow fever.
In Villa Universitaria the aedes aegypti infestation was 5.9%, in Las Lajas de San Félix 3.9%, in Nuevo México de Alanje 3.8%, in San Mateo 3.5%, in Loma Colorada 3.3%, in El Porvenir de La Concepción 3%, in Gran David 2.8%; while in the sectors of Elisa Chiari and the 16 de Diciembre neighborhood it was 2.2%.
