The renewal of the license will allow the CNLV to serve Mexico until April 10, 2055. Thus, it will continue to be a pillar of the National Electric System. As a result, the CFE remains at the forefront of clean energy production in the country and persists as the guarantor of the reliability of the national system itself.
After the renewal of the license of Unit 1 of the LVNPS issued by the Secretary of Energy (Sener) in July 2020, this fact is a source of national pride for the CFE, since it guarantees for the National Electric System the energy reliability that the nuclear facilities offer for the benefit of the people of Mexico.
Aware of the need and importance of nuclear energy from the LVNPS for Mexico, Rocío Nahle García, secretary of energy, authorized the renewal of the operating license for Unit 2 of the Laguna Verde Nuclear Power Plant (LVNPS-U2). The license has the technical endorsement of the National Commission for Nuclear Safety and Safeguards (CNSNS) and is valid from April 11, 2025 to April 10, 2055.
