SANTIAGO.- The deputy for this province, Féliz Michell, asked the authorities for urgent measures to deal with insecurity and deplored the robberies of families that occur after leaving the Cibao International Airport.
The congressman of the People’s Force demanded an end to the indolence that according to him the authorities have to face the high degree of insecurity and crime that affects the country.
The representative of the province of Santiago said that insecurity poses great disturbances to the tranquility of the Dominican population, affects the image of the country abroad, especially in the case of Dominicans abroad.
The deputy gave as an example the case of a family that returned to the country from New York and was robbed while its seven adult members and three children were heading towards La Vega after leaving the Cibao International Airport and were stripped of all their belongings and the cash they brought for their vacation.
The congressman recalled that the Cibao International Airport is an important development company that generates jobs and many taxes, so it should be provided with greater security in its surroundings, which would strengthen the confidence of travelers who make use of that air terminal.

“It has been happening for a long time that there is a specialized crime that is dedicated to robbing and assaulting Dominicans, foreigners who use the Cibao Airport, specialized because that body of armed men uses National Police uniforms, vests and long weapons and as far as I know , those uniforms are not made in the tailor shops of our neighborhoods, but are made by people authorized to do so,” Rodríguez said.
Michell warned of the connotation that implies that when individuals dressed in police clothing park in certain places and order drivers to stop, they do so because they understand that the police are ordering them and said he did not understand why the National Police maintains this practice at night, if a driver has not even committed an infraction in violation of the law.
“I ask myself, why so much indolence, or is it that they do not realize that an international airport is a reflection so that with criminal actions of this type foreign investment is affected so much, the image and our country brand?” questioned the deputy from Santiago.
Félix Michell called for the government to urgently implement permanent surveillance on the road sections of the airports.
