Tarek William Saab, attorney general of Venezuela, spoke on this topic on 6AM Hoy por Hoy. The official recalled that this event generated great controversy in his country after former President Iván Duque intervened in the company on April 11, 2019. At that time, Duque intervened so that the administrative control of Monómeros will pass to the Interim Government. of Venezuela, led by Juan Guiadó.
After this, the United States Department of the Treasury decided to lift the measures on Monomers, since both Duque and Trump rejected the Maduro government and with Guaidó at the helm, things were different. Similarly, after lifting the sanctions, licenses were granted to the company so that it could carry out transactions.
In this way, the prosecutor assured that there are four active investigations. “One from 2019 whose plot was the bidding for a fictitious and illegal board of directors for which that file was opened. Later, in 2020 the appointment of an irregular fictitious board was made. In 2021 we opened another investigation that has to do with irregularities related to the creation of a possible trust for the management of Monomeros. Likewise, also in 2021 we opened another investigation that has to do with the accusations of Mr. Calderón Berti against Leopoldo López for corruption in Monomeros”.
On the other hand, the prosecutor clarified that they not only have these four investigations, but also that there is a procedural nature because there are 23 arrest and capture orders. Likewise, regarding Juan Guaidó, he clarified: “we have not ruled out an investigation against any person in particular, inside and outside of Venezuela. It is not ruled out that arrest warrants may appear.”
