Abreu greeted the business meetings and diplomatic meetings that have been taking place prior to the reopening of the border and said that from the Executive there is no prey to be consumed, since they want to do things well. For his part, Freddy Bernal pointed out that what is missing is for both Petro and Maduro to agree on some specific points, while the president of Fedecamaras Táchira, Maximiliano Vásquez, criticized that there is still illegal trade via trails to the detriment of the economy. national

The Minister of Industries and Production, Hipólito Abreu, admitted that “there is still no precise date for the official reopening” of the border between Colombia and Venezuela, after detailing that this is a process that must be done progressively and to the extent that meet deadlines and medium-term goals.

From the Pedro María Ureña municipality in Táchira, at the installation of the Superior Body of Regional Industry, Abreu argued that the administration of Nicolás Maduro is not in a hurry for the process to be carried out immediately because his desire is for things to be carried out in the best way and that lead to an effective and suitable reopening, for which he indicated that there are meetings.

“Our country has called for unity. How important it is that this integration with industries and commerce is taking place”, he pointed out.

In this sense, I salute the business meetings and diplomatic meetings that have been held prior to the reopening of the border in a strategic manner to find points of understanding that allow a specific date to be specified.

For his part, the governor of the state of Táchira, Freddy Bernal, applauded the political will of the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, whom he said came “with ideas of peace and reconciliation” to resume diplomatic relations with Venezuela and recalled that the President Nicolás Maduro had been insisting on promoting the reopening of the border for more than two years.

Bernal pointed out that what is missing is for both Petro and Maduro to agree on some specific points, which he did not reveal. He acknowledged that there is impatience and great expectation in the commercial and business sectors for the reopening, as well as that the infrastructure and services in the area must be adapted, while he clarified that the bridges must be prepared to receive a large vehicular flow.

He insisted that Venezuela is not in the same conditions as Colombia due to the “blockade” imposed by the United States through sanctions.

He spoke of the possibility of installing an electrical substation in Ureña to improve public services and promote development both there and in San Antonio del Táchira.

“Adjustments must be made and as a government we have the obligation to protect the national business community, so that in exchanges with Colombia we are in the best competitive conditions,” he said.

Meanwhile, the president of Fedecamaras Táchira, Maximiliano Vásquez, exposed the difficulties that companies and businesses in the region evaluate, emphasizing power failures and the deterioration of roads. In the same way, he criticized that there is still informal trade through trails because that harms the national economy and the consumer.

Therefore, he demanded the reopening of the regular and official channels, while clarifying that the intention of the tachirense trade is to bring its products to the Colombian market.

The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Colombia, Darío Germán Umaña, explained at the “Border Agreement” event of the August 18th that the decision to reopen the border should be made when both countries are ready, after making sure that various problems and obstacles are overcome.

“When are they going to open the border? Soon, but when we are ready, both in security and diplomatic conditions. We are working. We know that we have to work as a team between the different institutions and make sure that there is coherence with the Venezuelan government”, he explained in a speech during the event.
