Madrid Spain.- On the morning of this Friday, a traffic accident occurred on the El Cobre highway, in the province of Santiago de Cuba.
So far nine people have been reported injured, including three minors, according to information preview shared by Aris Arias Batalla, rescuer and head of Operations and Relief in the eastern province.
The injured were initially transferred to the Ambrosio Grillo hospital to receive first aid.
At the time of writing this article, the adults were being transferred to the Saturnino Lora hospital and the children to the South Children’s Hospital.
As Arias Batalla pointed out through Facebook, the entire medical emergency system was activated and no loss of human life has been regretted.
According to a recent report by the Cuban authorities, during the first six months of 2022 they were registered in Cuba 4,871 traffic accidents, which left a balance of 346 dead and 3,565 injured.
For the first semester of 2022, all provinces increased accidents by 93% compared to the previous year, except for the Isla de la Juventud Special Municipality.
According to official information, the main causes of accidents are speeding, not respecting the right of way, the consumption of alcoholic beverages, technical problems and driver distraction.
In addition to these causes, the poor condition of the roads and the country’s aging vehicle fleet, where cars over 50 years old, also influence the high number of accidents. To this are added the poor signage on the streets, the lack of lighting and the little road education.
