The interim Minister of Transport and Public Works, Juan José Olaizola, reported that the automation of the Capilla Cella tolls, on route 9, and Centenario, on route 5, is scheduled for Monday, August 29. Meanwhile, on August 19, September, the tolls located in Manuel Díaz, on route 5, in the access to Rivera, and Cebollatí, on route 8, in the department of Lavalleja, will be incorporated into this system.
On this line, Olaizola reported that in the first stage implemented in July, the Paso del Puerto toll, located on route 3, in the department of Soriano, was incorporated into the new system. He indicated that the evaluation was positive and that the measure was well received by motorists.
The electronic devices, called TAG, allow you to join the electronic toll free of charge. These are available to users at the posts, according to the interim minister. He added that they can also be purchased at collection points and that the recharge can be paid with all credit cards. In this sense, he explained that there is a significant demand from motorists who adopt the new system, “which works without major difficulties.”
He stated that the toll workers participated in the entire process. He also assured that they will keep their jobs in the area of customer service.
He stressed that it is planned to consolidate the system and specified that in the summer season tourists will be provided with information and they will be able to acquire the devices at the border posts.
