California bans sales of new gasoline cars by 2035

California prohíbe venta de automóviles nuevos a gasolina para el año 2035

California today approved a set of rules banning the sale of new automobiles with gasoline engines. gasoline by 2035 as part of the combat to climate change, which is expected to drive changes in the automotive industry in USA.

the board of California Air Resources voted today in favor of a set of rules that will require 100% of cars sold in the state by 2035 to be free of fossil fuel emissions.

The Governor of California, the Democrat Gavin Newsom said Wednesday that “the climate crisis can be solved if we focus on the big and bold steps needed to stem the tide of carbon pollution.”

In September 2020, Newsom signed an executive order that laid out the ambitious 2035 goals in his plan to eliminate fossil fuel emissions, one of the main drivers of global warming.

“It is the action that we must take if we take seriously leave this planet better for future generations,” Newsom said.

Lauren Sanchez, advisor Governor Climate, he called the approval “a great day not only for California but for the entire world.”

The mission, he said, is to “get the state away from oil,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

The approved regulations also establish that 35% of new passenger vehicles sold in the state by 2026 produce zero emissions. That requirement will rise to 68% by 2030.

The rules would not affect used vehicles and would allow them to remain on the road.

Nor does the mandate cover all road transport. Heavy trucks with fuel engines diesel will have until 2045 to comply The application of these rules is expected to impact the US auto industry, as California is the largest market for the auto sector in the country, with about 11% of all sales.

It will also presumably boost other states to emulate the measurements. In the past, more than a dozen states have followed California’s environmental and transportation initiatives.

Newsom has said this is the “most effective” that can be adopted by California, which is facing a severe drought exacerbated by the climate crisis and has seen the number of large-scale fires in recent years, leaving great losses in human lives and money.

The rules must be approved by the federal government.

Approval of the package rules arrives a week after the President Joe Biden will sign the Inflation Reduction Act, which will invest $370 billion in clean energy programs, the largest action ever taken by the federal government to combat climate change.
