Mariano González on Harvey Colchado: “If Pedro Castillo persists with this attitude, we have the right to insurgency”

Mariano González on Harvey Colchado: "If Pedro Castillo persists with this attitude, we have the right to insurgency"

Former Minister of the Interior He referred to President Pedro Castillo’s request to remove Colonel PNP Harvey Colchado from the Special Team of the National Police and said that if he persists with this attitude, citizens could resort to the right to insurgency.

In statements to RPP Noticias, he stated that Castillo Terrones intends to disregard a judicial resolution and seeks to impose himself on other autonomous powers of the State, in addition to intimidating the National Police itself.

“It is violating another power, ignoring a judicial resolution and an autonomous entity such as the National Prosecutor’s Office and is practically imposing itself on other powers, which it does not respect. He is trying to intimidate the National Police”he expressed.

“In that line, if he persists with this attitude, the citizens of Peru will have every right to apply article 46 of the Political Constitution, [que es] the right to insurgency and remove those who do not exercise legitimately from Peru”he added.

For the former Minister of the Ministry, the head of state would seek to weaken the work of the National Prosecutor’s Office and the Special Police Team, with which – from his point of view – he would be trying to “break the constitutional order”.

“The seriousness of all this has to do with weakening the work of the prosecution, of the Special Police Team, and also implies that it is trying – willingly or not – to break the constitutional order”he underlined.

Finally, Mariano Gonzalez considered that the real political persecution is being exercised by the president against Colonel PNP Harvey Colchado and the Nation’s prosecutor, Liz Patricia Benavides.

As recalled, Eduardo Pachas, Castillo Terrones’s attorney, requested that the head of the PNP Special Team, Harvey Colchado, be removed for allegedly having “violated the immunity of the President of the Republic”.

In a document, he asked the Police General Inspectorate to initiate a disciplinary process and to retire Colchado, who leads the team that works together with the prosecution against the corruption of power.
