Human Rights Collective condemns the new raid of annihilation of 200 NGOs

The Nicaraguan Human Rights Collective Never Again condemned the recent attack by the Daniel Ortega dictatorship against Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the country. In this new raid carried out on August 24, the regime ordered the National Assembly to strip 100 more entities of their legal personality and the Ministry of the Interior (Migob) to outlaw another 100.

In a release, the human rights organization assured that “the purpose of these cancellations is to exercise absolute control and silence society; persecute those who think differently and establish a single thought, violating the human rights of the Nicaraguan people.

In the first eight months of 2022, the dictatorship has eliminated 1,675 nonprofit organizations.

Among the new cancellation list, the Association of Coffee Growers of Managua and municipal associations stand out, in addition to the Nicaraguan Association of Radiocommunication Companies (Anerc) and the Radio Experimenters Club of Nicaragua.

Ortega grants absolute control to Migob to close more NGOs

The Ortega regime indicates that the affected NGOs failed to comply with their obligations in accordance with the provisions of the Law for the Regulation and Control of Non-Profit Organizations and its Regulations, and the Law Against Money Laundering, the Financing of Terrorism and the Financing of Terrorism. the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

It is worth mentioning that Wednesday was the first time that the Migob canceled more organizations through a ministerial agreement, after the recent approval of the reform of Law 1115, General Law of Regulation and Control of Non-Profit Organizations.

With the reform approved to the law referring to NGOs, the Ortega-Murillo regime granted Migob the absolute power to strip organizations of legal personality through ministerial agreements, without the need to go through the Executive.

Faced with this new onslaught, the Collective’s defenders denounced “the systematic repression that the regime promotes against civil society organizations whose rights to freedom of association, political participation, legal and due process are violated, as well as the contribution to the Nicaraguan development.
