In this regard, Lacalle Pou admitted that the drug trafficking is behind many of the violent deaths, “in some places specifically there are violent groups and that is where the harshest attack has to be”, but knowing the reason does not exempt the problem: “When I was a senator I always complained when they talked about class A and class B deaths; violence is suffered by all”.

Lacalle said that his government is dealing with drug trafficking —Minister Heber had justified before Parliament that this was one of the reasons why there was an increase in homicides— and cited as examples: the extradition of Mexican drug trafficker Gerardo González Valencia , the closure of pasta base outlets and the seizure of goods and money from organized crime. Still, he concluded: “Of course I am not satisfied as long as there is violence in our country.”
