Blackouts continue this Thursday: 614 MW deficit forecast for peak hours

Madrid Spain.- The Cuban Electric Union (UNE) reported that this Thursday, during the day, a maximum impact of 750 MW is expected, due to the breakdowns that remain in the thermoelectric plants; so the blackouts will continue throughout the Island.

As for the hours of greatest demand, the entity forecast an energy deficit of 22% of the maximum generation capacity.

“An availability of 2,436 MW and a maximum demand of 2,980 MW is estimated for peak hours, for a deficit of 544 MW, so if the forecast conditions are maintained, an affectation of 614 MW is forecast at the peak”, accurate the UNE through its social networks.

Regarding the breakages of the thermoelectric plants, it indicates that they are out of service CTE Mariel units 6 and 7, CTE Otto Parellada unit, CTE Santa Cruz unit 2, CTE Nuevitas unit 4, and CTE Felton units 1 and 2. While unit 3 of the CTE Renté receives maintenance.

Faced with this situation, which has remained similar and unsustainable for the population for months, Cubans show their discontent in comments to the publications of the Electric Union.

“Our daily blackout. That is already part of the daily life of ordinary Cubans. Human beings have limits”, said Maricela Torres.

“It is that every day they maintain them and they continue to break. It is the story of the good pipe”, added Sara López.

While Susana Pelarde denounced: “Many explanations and no solution.”

According to recent statements offered on the television program of the Round table by officials of the Cuban Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), the island’s regime is currently investing in the repair of thermoelectric plants to minimize the massive blackouts that affect the country.

For her part, the deputy head of the MINEM Secretariat, Elaine Moreno Carnet, as if the extensive blackouts were not enough, called on Cubans to save money.

He also acknowledged that “these savings are not going to completely reduce the levels of damage,” so the situation appears hopeless for the Cuban people, at least in the short term.
