The Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (Inumet) issued a yellow alert for strong storms and heavy rains for Artigas, Cerro Largo, Paysandú, Río Negro, Durazno, Rivera, Soriano, Salto and Tacuarembó.
As announced by the institute, an atmospheric disturbance associated with a mass of humid and unstable air is affecting the country and could generate “point strong” storms.
It is expected that in some areas heavy rains will be recorded in short periods, occasional hail, strong wind gusts and intense electrical activity.
The affected towns are: Sequeira, Arévalo, Cerro de las Cuentas, Fraile Muerto, Quebracho, Ramón Trigo, Toledo, Tres Islas, Blanquillo, Centenario, La Paloma, Algorta, Barrio Anglo, Bellaco, El Ombú, Fray Bentos, Gartental, General Borges, Grecco, Las Cañas, Los Arrayanes, Menafra, Nuevo Berlin, Paso de los Mellizos, San Javier, Sarandí de Navarro, Tres Quintas, Villa María y Young, Amarillo, Cerros de la Calera, Las Flores and Minas de Corrales, Albisu, Arapey, Belén, Biassini, Campo de Todos, Cayetano, Cerro de Vera, Colonia 18 de Julio, Colonia Itapebí, Constitución, Fernández, Garibaldi, Itapebí, Lluveras, Migliaro, Puntas de Valentín, Quintana, Rincón de Valentín, Salto, San Antonio, Saucedo, Termas del Arapey and Termas del Daymán y Mercedes.
For the departments of Paysandú and Tacuarembo, the alert applies to all the territories.
