Mujica participated this August 24 in a discussion held by the Confederation of Organizations of State Officials of Uruguay (COFE), within the framework of the celebration of the 58th anniversary of its foundation, in the Lost Steps Hall of the Legislative Palace, in which discussed the importance of the State in the countries of the region.
After the activity, the former president was consulted by the press about the government’s decision to grant the passport to drug trafficker Marset, when he was detained in Dubai for carrying a false Paraguayan passport.
As is customary in Mujica, he did not try to moderate his colloquial language and replied: “That is an error and bureaucratic nonsense and I don’t want to think about anything else. That routine that things are always done that way.
Asked if he visualizes a drug background involved in politics in the granting of the passport, Mujica denied it.
“I think that we Orientals are quite assholes,” he remarked.
The decree
Other questions to the former president referred to the ruling party’s argument that the passport was granted to Marset in accordance with current decree No. 129/014, modified during the Mujica government.
To which the former head of state said that said decree also says other things, such as: “that if there is mistrust, superiors should be consulted, and did no one mistrust anything?”
“The decree was written that way so that people could get a passport, because it was a necessity for tourism, but that does not mean that the State has to control everything without being asked,” he said.
He added: “For me it has to do with the balls we have, bye!”
