The regional governors of Biobío and La Araucanía, Rodrigo Diaz Y Luciano Rivasrespectively, addressed the arrest of the leader of the Coordinadora Arauco Malleco (CAM), Hector Llaitul, in Cañete, after an order from the Prosecutor’s Office. In this regard, the authorities expect Llaitul to be transferred to the High Security Prison in Santiago.
Llaitul’s arrest occurred within the framework of an investigation by the Ministry of the Public, initiated in 2020 after the then Government filed a complaint under the State Security Law.
Faced with Llaitul’s arrest, Governor Díaz stated: “I hope they send him to the High Security Prison in Santiago, he is a dangerous criminal.”
“I hope that tomorrow in the oral trial, in the preparatory hearing, what the Public Ministry will do is present background information and that the Court will also order the maintenance of the detention (…) I hope that he remains in jail because it is a dangerous person,” added the regional authority.
Meanwhile, Governor Luciano Rivas told T13 that “I think it would be important that it could be transferred to the High Security Prison because we are talking about a terrorist organization that is operating in the area.”
