The first vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, referred to the recent response issued by Colombian President Gustavo Petro to a remark he made on his program Con el Mazo Dando, regarding the extradition of members of the called “interim government” who committed crimes against the country.
“Colombia guarantees the right to asylum and refuge”, was the response expressed via Twitter by the New Granadan president, citing a news item where the public request made by Cabello on the extradition of characters such as Julio Borges and other members of the opposition extremism who were found in the neighboring country.
Given this, the first vice president of the red awning criticized “the party” that he assures some media such as the magazine Semana de Colombia made and ruled out that this response will generate friction between the authorities of both countries and stressed that he “deeply” respects the decisions of the ruler of New Granada.
“Some media were partying around saying ‘Petro responded to Diosdado’, no, he is the president of Colombia and I deeply respect Colombia’s decisions, now, Venezuela has every right to demand justice, but we respect Colombia and we respect the government of President Petro”, he emphasized.
Trust in the Colombian Government
He indicated that contrary to what these media promote, “we will not do anything that will tarnish this beautiful process that is beginning now, no, on the contrary, they know that our hand is stretched out there, so they are not going to put us to fight semata (referring to the magazine Semana) and his combo”.
“Everyone knows what they have to say and what they have to do,” he said, underscoring the hope that President Petro’s government represents for peace in the region.
“We have high hopes for peace in this entire region thanks to President Petro (…). 200 years in Colombia governed by the oligarchy of that poor people, that is why they are as they are and Colombia has right now, hand in hand with President Petro and Vice President Marquez, the hope of starting to get out of that pit where the oligarchy put it, “he said .
He highlighted the hope that has awakened in Colombia with the new government.
“The people are beginning to feel hope, the police are beginning to feel hope, they have already ordered the elimination of Esmad, of course that was a repressive body against the people and one sees that the Colombian people have a different face,” he stressed, noting that “Venezuela and Colombia we are condemned to walk together for whatever destinations.”
