COE mobilizes 301 people due to rains

Some 301 people moved to safer places, 61 homes affected, as well as two bridges, are the result of the rains of recent days, produced by a trough that affected the national territory.

So far, the most affected province is La Vega, especially the municipality of Jarabacoa, for which the Emergency Operations Center (COE) keeps it on red alert.

While Santiago is in yellow and El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Santiago Rodríguez, Monte Plata, San Juan, Sánchez Ramírez and Monseñor Nouel are in green.

In this sense, the COE warns people that they should refrain from crossing or bathing in rivers, streams and ravines that have high volumes of water.

In La Vega, the Central Directorate of Tourism Police and the Jarabacoa firefighters, due to the flooding of the Yaqué del Norte River in Manabao, 24 homes and two bridges have been affected. So far no human loss has been recorded due to the rains.

Onamet

On its side, the National Meteorology Office (Onamet) reported that this afternoon the trough together with the wind that will prevail from the east/southeast will bring humidity, therefore, cloudy increases with moderate to heavy downpours, electrical storms and gusts of wind in areas from the northeast, southwest, Central Cordillera and the border area.

According to his forecast, in the early hours of the night, showers are expected in areas of the southeast, including Greater Santo Domingo and the Caribbean coast.

He adds that this Thursday morning, a slight decrease in humidity is expected in the air mass, however, in the afternoon, some moderate showers are expected in towns in the southwest, the border area and the Central Mountain Range.
