Cabello insists again that the opposition will not hold primaries

The statements of Cabello, who seems to assert right off the bat that this process will not occur, are not isolated, since in the past he made the same speech and classified as “impossible” for the process to be completed.

The first vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, reiterated that the majority opposition will not be able to hold the primary elections necessary to define a unitary candidate to run against Chavismo in the 2024 presidential elections.

Cabello’s warning —almost like a premonition— was expressed during the 400th edition of With The Mallet Giving in response to a tweet posted by the account of SuchWhichpart of a thread about an analysis of the status of the opposition candidates ahead of the primary process.

The tweet specifically indicated that one aspect to take into account for the election of the unitary opposition candidate would be the cost of the primaries, recalling that in the election for the 2012 presidential elections, the candidates had to pay a registration fee that was used to finance the vote.

Cabello denied this speech and guaranteed that the electoral event was financed directly by the United States. In addition to that he advanced his prediction that the opposition will be unable to organize the event. According to the Chavista leader, it is impossible for them to agree.

“I’ve said it before here. There will be no right-wing primaries. They cannot agree on who is going to govern that vote. Some want it to be the CNE (National Electoral Council), another lady says without the CNE; others want a foreign vote, others say that it will not serve to unite or that the date has to be right now », she speculated.

The statements by Cabello, who seems to assert right off the bat that this process will not happen, are not isolated. Already in the past he gave the same speech and classified as “impossible” that the process be completed.

Cabello believes that the resolution of the election of a candidate for the opposition will be through the imposition of a name, instead of a voting process. “They will not agree. There will be no consensus, but the imposition of a candidate », he sentenced.

The “joke” against Cabello

As a curious note of the day, during the broadcast of the program via YouTube, the live chat was flooded with messages from supporters of the Escuela De Nada podcast, prepared by Venezuelan comedians Leonardo Rojas, Ignacio Redondo and Christopher Andrade.

At the time of the broadcast, the group of comedians was also developing a live broadcast of their podcast, with the coincidence that, as with the Cabello program, it was also about his 400th edition.

Due to the coincidence and as a joke, the members of Escuela de Nada asked their supporters to go to the Con El Mazo Dando chat and ask Cabello, ironically, to allow them to produce an edition of the podcast on Venezuelan soil.

This request is due to the fact that the PSUV leader himself directed comments against one of the comedians, Nacho Redondo, at the end of 2017, precisely in an edition of Con El Mazo Dando. Cabello criticized Redondo for a routine in which the comedian made a “joke” about people with disabilities.

“You are rubbish. Surely tomorrow he will say that he is politically persecuted. They have a brain full of cockroaches. Go to the United States. There if they want them and they are going to applaud them, ”said the Chavista leader.

As a result of the precedent, fans of the podcast flooded the chat of the streaming from Con El Mazo Dando with the messages “We want EDN in Venezuela”, “#FreeNacho”, “Diosdado, let Nacho return”, mixed among some insults. The number of users connected to the broadcast rose from 4,000 to 5,700 during these minutes.
