Minister of Education presents bills for the well-being of educators and the implementation of sustainable education

The Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, supported two bills before the National Assembly: the first that “establishes the guidelines for the transformation, improvement and well-being of the educator and dictates other provisions” and another “for the implementation of the Education for Sustainable Development policy and dictates other provisions.

The first proposal, which is related to Cabinet Resolution No. 42 of April 12, 2022, seeks to improve educational policy to address the problems detected in pedagogy and advance in strengthening the educator’s profession, according to the explanatory statement .

It also suggests addressing the problems detected in pedagogy and advancing in the strengthening of the teaching profession, since they are a key factor to ensure the quality of education, since the educational policies designed or implemented must have as their central axis the professional development of the educator and consider the elements that contribute to it.

As for the other proposal, contained in Cabinet Resolution No. 57 of May 11, 2022, its objective is to establish public policies aimed at Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) to fully prepare citizens to responsibly face build a society that promotes sustainable development.

In addition, that it enhances their abilities, skills, values, attitudes and skills, but that it also manages to transform educational environments, the execution of good community practices and that respects the interrelation between communities and nature, as part of a society with a sustainable future and sustainable.

This proposal seeks to benefit all students in the country from the regular and non-regular subsystem, in formal and non-formal modalities, from the official and private sector, to provide them with the knowledge, skills, learning skills and technologies, innovation, communication, collaboration and values ​​necessary to overcome the challenges and national and global challenges.

Mainly, those that are based on climate change, environmental sustainability, loss of biodiversity, poverty and inequality.

The proposal includes that the National Directorate of Environmental Education be the office responsible for the optimal development of the actions that are reflected in the ESD policy. In addition, to coordinate with the Directorates of Educational Evaluation, Planning, Curriculum and the Office of Statistics, articulate the monitoring and scope of the achievements and fulfillment of the results in each strategic axis.
