the congresswoman Maria Acuna Peralta (Alliance for Progress), with the support of the rest of his benchpresented a draft legislative resolution that proposes to prohibit parliamentarians with criminal proceedings from being part of the board of directors of the Legislative commissions.
“The purpose of this legislative resolution is to prohibit Members of Congress who are involved in criminal proceedings can join the board of directors of any of the Congress of the Republic”, the document reads.
In this sense, Acuña Peralta proposes that article 34 of the regulations of the Congress of the Republic be modified by adding this new provision. In addition, it is detailed that if any of the members of the board of directors of the commissions are prosecuted or investigated, they must leave their position.
“The congressman who is being investigated, prosecuted or who has a conviction cannot be elected as a member of the board of directors of any commission. for any of the crimes provided for in articles 296, 297, 298, 299, 300, 301, 302, 316 and 317 of the Penal Codeas well as in Decree Law 25475 or in Law 30077″, reads the proposal to modify said article.
“If any of the members of the board of directors of any of the commissions, after their formation, turns out to be investigated or prosecuted for any of the aforementioned crimes, they immediately leave their position. and is replaced in accordance with the Regulation“, keep going.
Parliamentarian María Acuña justified her draft legislative resolution alleging that Congress has been attacked by other powers with the purpose of discrediting its image and assures that this has been possible because there are congressmen who “they have given rise” to those actions.
“For example, the 2022-2023 parliamentary period has been tainted by complaints against a group of congressmen who surreptitiously agreed to support the Government, but not because of ideology but in exchange for perks for works or other benefits.”, he stated.
