The Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera, reported this Saturday that he tested positive for covid-19, after having undergone a PCR test as a result of having had contact in the last hours with people infected with the virus.
The announcement was made by the minister himself on his Twitter account. “I am having the disease in a very mild way, which confirms the importance of vaccination,” said Viera, who said that he had three doses of the vaccine against the disease. “To continue taking care of us,” he exhorted.
Uruguay is going through an increase in the number of positive cases in recent days. This Friday 612 new infections were confirmed, the maximum daily number in the last six months. That day, in addition, the positivity rate was 5.4%.
Until this friday active cases were 3,804, which also means the highest number since mid-July.
In a special greeting for the Holidays published on his social networks, the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, urged citizens to give themselves the third dose of the vaccine against covid-19.
“We finished this year much better than we started it”said Delgado, who conveyed a message “from the heart.” The hierarch thanked the Uruguayans for “having used responsible freedom to take care of yourself, and today have the pandemic under control”.
Too “for having put his arm and getting vaccinated, for helping to shield us from the challenges that are threatening us.” And to those who “put their shoulders” and who allowed the country to be in an economic recovery phase that, he said, will be consolidated this season.
“Thanks to all of you, we can see the future with greater optimism, with greater joy and, above all, with greater hope”, Delgado concluded.
