Some 18 processed wood tucas (Cocobolo – Dalbergia Retusa) were found by the Intelligence Section against Environmental Crimes in conjunction with units of the Environmental Police within the Soberanía National Park.
This action was carried out through a land patrol, where the uniformed officers at the height of the Pedro Miguel River, a forest road, located the 18 tucas of this protected species whose value on the illegal market is approximately B/. 40,000.00.
Major Elvin Ortíz, head of the Environmental Police, indicated that the wood protected by national and international laws, because it is in danger of extinction, was transferred to the Ministry of the Environment for its custody and corresponding procedures.
