Despite the efforts of the authorities, the fires in the Parana Delta Not only do they continue, but new outbreaks have appeared, according to the National Fire Management Service (SNMF).
Altogether, in the wetland Nine more fires have appeared, which worries the authorities, because, as long as the fire is not extinguished, the number of hectares lost and the environmental damage caused in the Parana Delta it will be irreversible.
Therefore, with the aim of strengthening the operation being carried out in the Parana Delta, Greater human and technical resources have been made available to try to contain the fire which occurs in the north of the province of Buenos Aires and in the provinces of Entre Ríos and Santa Fe.
In total, in the area, there are four hydrant planes, four helicopters with buckets and an observer plane from the SNMF, three helicopters for transporting personnel belonging to the Ministry of Defense, a helicopter belonging to the province of Buenos Aires and a boat belonging to Parques Nationals.
Additionally, the SNMF summoned more than 100 brigade members and support personnel affected by firefighting, belonging to the National South and Center Brigade, National Parks and the province of Buenos Aires and the Argentine Federal Police, according to the Government.
According to the report, the outbreaks occur in the Delta area, in the departments of Zárate, Baradero, Campana and in the vicinity of the Los Laureles stream; while, in Entre Ríos, the fires continue in La Chata, Negro, Dormilón and Vuelta del Caracol (Victoria) and in El Cuadro, Ybicuy, Islas and Savio (Gualeguay). For its part, in the province of Santa Fe, three outbreaks remain active in Los Zapallos Este and La Boca, in the provincial capital, and in the Fefe area, in San Jerónimo.
Meanwhile, the Minister of the Environment, Juan Cabandié, called this Monday for a meeting of the Environmental Emergency Committee, where he again stressed that it is necessary for justice to take action to find those responsible for the fires: “What we ask of the justice system is to take exemplary measures so that those who recurrently start fires stop doing so”.
A satellite captured stunning images of the devastation
In images, the magnitude of the fires was recorded in the wetlandwhere nearly 100,000 hectares have already been consumed by fire, which represents unprecedented environmental damage.
The images were taken on August 19 by the Sentinel 2 satellite of the European Space Agency (ESA), at the height of Villa Constitución, in Santa Fe, and in San Nicolás, in the province of Buenos Aires, within the framework of the observation mission developed by the agency with the Copernicus program, through which the forests are monitored.
