Havana Cuba. – The Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) enabled a function within its Transfermóvil service that allows you to save a virtual balance in USD and CUP to buy products and services from the Cuban company itself, according to ad the state monopoly on its website.
Bolsa Mitransfer, the name given to the new functionality, is a virtual money account associated with a telephone number. The new electronic payment channel allows you to have an account in USD and another in cup.
While the first can only be recharged from abroad through the recently launched website (bolsatransfermovil.com), the CUP account can be recharged from Metropolitano, BANDEC and BPA bank cards.
With the balance received from abroad, users will be able to buy international top-up promotions, combined internet plans and Nauta Plus (a new modality that allows users to activate an account to surf the internet 24 hours a day for 15 or 30 days, for a value of 15 or 25 dollars respectively).
However, the Nauta Plus account can only “be used in the ETECSA and third-party navigation rooms (Joven Club de Computación, Correos de Cuba), Wi-Fi zones and from the Nauta Hogar service. When the validity of the Nauta Plus account is exhausted, you must acquire another one because this account is not rechargeable”, specified the monopoly.
With the CUP account, users will be able to continue paying their telephone bill and recharging their mobile balance and Nauta Hogar, among others.
On the other hand, transfers can be made between accounts that have the Bolsa Mitransfer service enabled without exceeding the limit of 30,000 pesos per day in the CUP account and 1,000 dollars in the USD account.
The fact that the account in USD can receive top-ups only from abroad generated criticism from many users who expressed their disagreement on social networks
“Not even with paper dollars or with MLC can you recharge the Nauta Plus. This is to collect money, they never thought of the town,” said Mailiby Vásquez, a young ETECSA user.
The novelty of the service is that, finally, ETECSA launched the long-awaited “flat rate”. However, only a few will be able to enjoy it due to its high prices and its limitation to Wi-Fi zones and Nauta Hogar. Now international recharges can also be made from Cuba with an exchange rate of 25 CUP for one USD.
More than a year ago, ETECSA had promised the “virtual wallet” with which the mobile balance could be converted into a CUP account for various uses. However, the Cuban company has not yet announced this service.
