Is it feasible to establish electronic voting in Mexico? Representatives of the political parties said yes to that possibility, although with different nuances, according to what was expressed in four days of analysis during a forum organized by the INE.
Morena pointed out that the option is found in the reform initiative sent to Congress last April by President López Obrador, because technological progress is considered a way to reduce costs, protect the environment and know the results on the same day of the elections. . This method is already used in Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Brazil, France, India and Slovenia. Mexico has only done a few pilot tests, such as in Coahuila.
Meanwhile, the PRI warned that this type of vote is not a simple matter in a country with thousands of attempts at bank fraud and threats of cyber attacks, but above all because there is no Internet in many towns.
Counselor Carla Humphrey, in charge of the forum and president of the INE Organization Commission, initially made it clear –as part of the conclusions– that there are no infallible methods, neither manually nor electronically, although It is true that in our country some characteristics of the current model are already exceeded.
