Bank of nationalist mayors voted against the US$ 50 million trust fund for the Municipality of Montevideo

The bench of mayors of the National Party issued a statement to refer to the vote to form a trust of 50 million dollars for the Municipality of Montevideo.

Through the text, they express that in their opinion, “said credit request is given after weeks of uncertainty and lack of information by the Intendancy about the works to be carried out with the trust in question”, and that in addition, “it makes In just 48 hours we were informed of a series of works to be carried out that only justify the use of US$35 million out of a total of US$50 million requested. A true blank check where we are concerned that the total destination of the funds is not justified.

“This trust has been requested to carry out works that were already planned to be carried out in this five-year period, and that already had allocated funds. In conclusion, the same works will be done, with the same resources, but paying more for interest,” says another excerpt from the statement.

The councilors made it clear that on this occasion, “the motivation of this trust seems to be explained more by an electoral interest of the Mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse, and her desire to inaugurate works in a pre-election year, than by a real interest in improving the city. The past has already shown us what happens when the interests of the Mayor take precedence over the needs of the people”.

For the reasons stated above, the nationalist representatives communicated that “we assume our role of putting a limit on mismanagement and the use of public funds for electoral purposes. That is why this bench has resolved to vote negatively on said trust application.”
