Panamanian Federation of Associated Wrestling closes 2021 with the Major National Championship

The facilities of the Roberto Kelly Sports Complex was the headquarters for the Major National Wrestling Championship 2021 which was held from December 17 to 19, 2021 in its Greco and Free styles, masculine and feminine branches, in its different categories, organized by the Panamanian Federation of Associated Struggles and where athletes affiliated with the sports leagues of Panama Centro, Panama Oeste, Coclé, Chiriquí, Herrera, Veraguas, Guna Yala and as a guest team, the National Police participated.

The event, which was attended by the president of the Panama Olympic Committee (COP), Damaris Young, was conducive to a donation of Under Armor brand sportswear made by the COP to the Federation for the benefit of national wrestlers.

In the Greco style, the national champions in the different categories were:

In the 60 kg Kevin Carrasco from Herrera was in first place, Ronaldo Montoya from Veraguas was second, while Mark Gudiño from Panama Oeste and Adonis Acosta from Colón were in third place.

Alex Pineda from the National Police, took first place in the 67 kg, second place went to Manuel Góndola from Colón, third place went to José Espinoza from Panama Centro and Royglen Temple from Veraguas.

In the 77 kg, the experienced athlete Alvis Almendra, representing the National Police, took first place, second place went to Eduardo Vega de Veraguas and third place was shared by Luis Márquez de Herrera and Gabriel Muñoz de Colón.

The veteran Elton Brown took the honors in the 87 kg category, the second place went to Alfonzo Jaramillo of the National Police and Héctor Castillo and Omar Rodríguez de Herrera and Colón respectively took third place. It should be noted that after the event ended, Elton Brown announced his official retirement as national champion.

The bronze medalist in the recent Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games, Max Madrid, from Herrera took first place in the 97 kg category, second place went to Erick Ramos from the National Police and third place was occupied by the Veracruz Jefter Mendez.

In the Greco 130 kg category, Rodolfo Waithe from Colon was crowned National Champion, Pan-American youth Juan Cantillo de Coclé was second, and athletes Eliecer Ábrego de Herrera and Guillermo Ortiz de Herrera occupied third place.

In the 53 kg, Johany Ruiz from Panama Centro ranked first, followed by Iris Batista from Veraguas and third place went to Yesibeth Parrales de Herrera and Kathia Caballero from Chiriquí.

In the 57 kg category, first place was held by Irishell Vargas from Panama Centro and second place went to Karol Sánchez de Herrera. While in the 62 kg Yahaira Ibarra from Panama Centro achieved first place, Cristina Manoleska from the National Police was second and third place went to Marina Cedeño de Herrera.

In the 68 kg Estefany Aguilera from Coclé achieved first place, Channell Simmonds from Panama Oeste was second and third place was occupied by Cindy Poveda de Herrera and Eylin Martínez de Veraguas. In the 76 kg Emily Sánchez achieved the first position.

In the 57 kg, Richard García from Veraguas took first place, Abel Hidalgo from Panama Oeste was second and third place was placed by Ethan Solís from Panama Centro and Aaron Sánchez from Coclé.

David Pinilla de Veraguas achieved the first place in the 65 kg, Robert Pérez of the National Police was second, while the third place was occupied by Angel Martínez and Azael Polanco de Colón and Panamá Oeste respectively.

In the 74 kg, Julio Rodríguez from Veraguas was first, followed by Angel Cortez from the National Police, third place went to Héctor Sáenz from Guna Yala and José Espinoza from Panamá Centro.

While in the 86 kg Alfonzo Jaramillo of the National Police won the place of honor, followed by Rubiel Pimentel from Chiriquí and third place went to Omar Rodríguez de Guna Yala and Antonio Robles de Colón.

Guna Yala took first place in the 97 kg category with the athlete Javier Barter, second place went to Gabriel De León from Panama Centro and third place was taken by Jefter Méndez. In the category with the highest tonnage in Freestyle, the colonense Orlando Arispe, achieved the first place in the 125 kg, the second place went to Ameth Perry from Veraguas and the third place was occupied by Gerardo Aguilar from the National Police and Juan Cantillo from Cocle.
