Washington, Dec 23 (Prensa Latina) The Film Critics Awards in the United States gave in today to the pressure of Covid-19 and disappeared from the cultural agenda in January 2022, the date scheduled for the annual gala.
In its 27th edition, the awards are pending a new appointment, according to a statement released on the social network Twitter by the Association of Film Broadcast Critics, which brings together more than 500 specialists from this country and Canada.
“After careful consideration and frank discussions with our partners, we came to the conclusion that the most prudent and responsible decision at this time is to postpone the 27th edition of the awards,” says the text.
Also, remember that they were originally scheduled for January 9 next year and are currently analyzing new dates “during the next awards season to host the annual gala in person with everyone’s safety and health as our top priority.”
On this occasion, the awards would replace the Golden Globes, organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, whose bases and statutes are undergoing a process of transformation after accusations of corruption and lack of diversity.
Following complaints of racism, corruption and malpractices by its 86 members, the entity responsible for the awards responded with a series of internal reforms to the article published in the Los Angeles Times newspaper that exposed its ethical deficiencies.
According to specialized media, the policy prevents the acceptance of perks of all kinds extended through studios, publicists, actors, directors or others associated with films and television programs.
Given this scenario, they also agreed to increase their ranks taking into account black people, a greater openness of the entity, until now characterized by secrecy, increase the number of affiliates and the participation of members in training sessions on diversity, equity and inclusion.
