The Social Security Institute (IPS) enabled this Wednesday the Comprehensive Care Center for Ostomized Patients, which will work on the premises of the Ingavi Hospital in San Lorenzo.
This morning the IPS Comprehensive Center for Stoma and Wound Care was officially opened, emphasizing the physical and emotional care of ostomy patients.
This infrastructure helps the insured to cope with the treatment with attention and a multidisciplinary team of stomatherapists, psychologists and nutritionists.
The graduates María Lucía Segovia, Elva Caballero, Natalia Klaner, Patricia Chávez, Cinthya Pesoa, Jessica López, are in charge of caring for ostomates who come to the IPS Ingavi Hospital.
It is worth mentioning that the so-called ostomy is an operation where it is necessary to make an opening in the patient’s abdomen. Through this hole, the person will be able to expel feces that are deposited in the intestines, as well as gases and other body fluids, which will be contained in a bag.
The causes of ostomy are associated with different factors: some type of cancer, intestinal diseases such as inflammation of a tumor, perforated diverticulitis, traffic accidents, among other causes.
Currently, there are some 452 patients scheduled for bag removal at the IPS. Each patient has the right to withdraw 15 bags monthly. They are instructed on how to use the bags at home and how to maintain a good diet, also receiving emotional support.
The attention to ostomy patients will be carried out on the Ground Floor – Block E (room 15) of the Ingavi Hospital at different times: Monday to Friday, from 07:00 to 17:00; and Saturdays and Sundays, from 07:00 to 17:00.
